Koirala's Meaningless utterances Nepali politicians resemble the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Our leaders assume the personalities concurrently of both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which in essence was one according to the story. But yet they give us to understand that they were two different sets of personalities, which differed in quality and substance. The people by now have known them and hence any act of misleading the people will boomerang. The fact is that their ugly faces stood exposed. President Koirala possesses the political leverage of meeting his Indian mentors and confide with them any thing under the sun and upon return he also deserves the exclusive rights to speak the rough and tough languages of what his mentors instruct him regarding the system and the monarchy. He is allowed to do so and the people forced to listen to his , fiery and disgusting most of the times, speeches that at times crosses all the possible and bearable limits, because he is President Koirala who reportedly enjoys alien support. President Koirala can meet any foreign leaders and compromise national interests for satisfying his lust for power and subsequently the nation paying for his extra-political adventures. He is allowed to do so because this has been done by none less than a personality of president Koiralathe one who tried his best to convince his fellow country men that the Mahakali treaty were merely an agreement and not a treaty in strictest sense of the term. Thanks the Supreme Court came to the rescue or else the nation would have suffered a lot. He is allowed to mislead the nation simply because he is president of a party that ever exhibited anti-democratic credentials from day one of its inception some fifty plus years back. Ask the Koirala victims in the congress who will admit this fact with tears in their eyes. President Koirala can create Dhamija scandals but yet could remain unscathed. President Koirala can push the country to the dangerous Lauda dimension but yet could continue undiscovered. President Koirala can challenge the constitution through his intermittent unconstitutional activities and utterances but yet could dare to give the impression that he so did to safeguard the constitution. Jesus Christ! One could question wherefrom he enjoys this unwritten and undeclared powers? One could question his source of power? Whether it is a national force or for that matter an alien power that more often than not keeps poking into Nepali scheme of political matters. Should the national population pardon him simply because he is a septuagenarian and has a long history in politics? He has indeed invested a lot in giving a definite political shape to the countrys politics. Granted and that too unconditionally. We salute this old man whose contributions were immense. But accompanying also is the fact that he is the one who has remained instrumental in bringing this nation to this chaotic state but appears not in a mood to accept this hard reality because his uncompromising whimsical ego comes into play. Why should the country remain obliged ever over his past contributions in politics and not chase him for his all wrong doings? Is he above the law? Is he above the constitution? Is he above the countrys established norms and values if any? Should he be given to utter any thing under the sun? If his supposed alien links were allowed to continue unhindered, he will push the nation to an abyss but yet will claim that it were not his efforts. What is the harm if the King meets his own people? What is the harm if the King wishes to mingle with his own men out in the districts? What is the harm if the people of a particular area wish their monarch to come to see them and talk about the existing politics of the nation? We dont see any harm in it as suspected by Koirala and his compatriots within and without. After all the monarch is meeting his own people being inside his own defined territory? The King in doing so has not crossed his constitutional limits. Albeit, the monarch might have some political ambitions in the whole affair. But then yet the question arises: has he met alien nationals? Has he expressed anti-national sentiments? Has he hurt the sentiments of the political parties in any way when he talks of forging a sort of unity among all the potential political forces for the larger interest of the nation? This in no way should mean that we have been siding with the King. But what we admit is that the King in doing so has not committed a crime as is being given to understand. The political parties are free to accumulate people as in effect they have been doing in the past. We will enjoy if people coming to listen to their fiery speeches in good numbers. Its not a matter of headache for us. In sum, we dismiss summarily the off-the-cuff remarks made by the leaders of various political parties regarding the monarchs trip to the Eastern region of the Kingdom. The King has done no wrong in meeting his own people. He was encouraged to do so definitely when he saw that the political leaders prefer not to do so for their own political reasons. He definitely exploited the peoples sentiments that were denied care by their own representatives. The King will perhaps do so in the future should the peoples representatives continue to exhibit their utter negligence towards the peoples problems. The message should be loud and clear.
