What is ambassador at large?
Dear Sir,
I was not serious about the Telegraph until recently when you
published an article about Dr. Bhesh Bahadur Thapa. Actually he has been in the higher
post for the last four decades now in Nepal. But what has been his contribution to the
cause of the Nepalese and Nepal. He was two times ambssador to US and again transferred to
Delhi to be together with his wife who was working there for WHO. In our country, the
people are really blind when appointing anybody to any ambassadorship or to a higher post.
Either they see a relative for that matter or a drinking chum, they donot see the national
interest which is paramount in such appointments in other countries. Now he is the boss of
the Shital Niwas as Ambassador at large. Many people do not know what is ambassador at
large? Is it above the Foreign Secretary or below the Foreign Secretary? When you mention
Ambassador, it is always below the rank of FS. Then what is this rank without any
political responsibility and he is making decisions as Minister for Foreign Affairs. How
can it be justified? In the appointment of ambassadors also it is understood that he is
going to appoint his former friends and former men. Is anybody listening and thinking in
Nepal?
Sincerely yours,
Ram Kumar Dubey
