Mr. Narendra Upadhyaya
Editor The Telegraph
Ghattekulo, Kathmandu

Dear Mr. Upadhyaya:

We were interested to read the interview with Mr. Shrish Rana in your November 11 edition in which he stated Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Hisila Yami had traveled to the United States under the International Visitors’ Program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu. According to our records, neither Dr. Baburam Bhattarai nor Hisila Yami had ever participated in any U.S. government-sponsored program of travel or study in the U.S.

I would appreciate if you could publish a corrigendum in a prominent place in the next issue of your newspaper.

Sincerely yours,

Constance Colding Jones
Counselor for Public Affairs, and Director, American Center

Editor Replies: It turns out that both the Bhattarai’s were in the US for a lecture (s?) at Wisconsin University in 1991. Rana’s stance corrected on the matter of sponsor.
