By: N.ARYAL No to press freedom First killing a journalist and then threatening others to execute, not even the press is left of mercy, this is what the Maoists want to prove? The Maoists vicious action to kill a Radio Nepal reporter, Dikedra Thapa, 34, survived with three children and a wife, gives the Maoists the top position this week as usual on the list of media headlines. Then came the unity exhibited by the ever-partisan Nepali Press, by timely protesting the act of the rebels. This act of terror, allude to the future Maoist's government if formed, there is no place for the so-called press freedom. Blockade Now comes the Maoists blockade, the initial days of which showed skyrocketing vegetable prices. Rest remained stable. Of the Indian concern to the Maoists blockage the Indian embassy rejected the news that came in one of the controversial broad sheet daily, that India is airlifting food items to Kathmandu. One of the Indian Embassy staff here in Kathmandu again talking to the same newspaper also alleged as an Indian venture, told India is always ready to airlift items if Nepalese government wishes them to do so. A friend in need is a friend indeed? Remembering the 1989 Blockage Crafting the anarchy among the Kathmanduites, not even the common men are left of mercy; this is what the Maoists want to prove? How the Maoists will take the India imposed economic blockade on Nepal in the year 1989/90, with the one they have imposed on Kathmandu, their own motherland will be worth watching. Another Pilgrimage More interestingly, then comes the Delhi Pilgrimage of our leaders, as local politics seems to be going out of their reach, yet again exposing the Indian interest back home. More interestingly all those leaders visiting Delhi this time are heading the government formed Peace Committee. With the return of the RPP chief Pashupati Sumsher Rana on Friday, the same day UML chief left for Delhi. Declared as a private trip, Madhav Nepal's Delhi visit this time remains under close scrutiny among the political analysts. For Peace or Chair, it will be clear in the coming days. Madhav is still there; Girija is planning to leave shortly. Deuba is leaving next week. Has Nepali peace gone missing in Delhi? Resultant Will this pilgrimage bring peace to the nation? No one knows. But what is for sure is that this can certainly bring a new prime minister. |
