Wrinkle Wrinkle Old Stars

By: Yuba Raj Koirala, Kathmandu

All of us have seen and heard that when people grow old they tend to develop wrinkles all around their body. This is not surely a sign of one growing wise rather than the nature working on its own will and reminding the person that his time was about to be up, however, some would say that if a person shows a particular type of wrinkly signs on his forehead at some particular stage of his life, for example: three long parallel lines drawn across his somewhat big forehead; then the man could be said to have surely accumulated abundance wisdom and that he has refrained himself from committing wrongful deeds which would lead him to the path of hell. Some would also say that this is the sign of one leading a righteous life and that his soul will suffer less when he dies. These kinds of people are also believed to posses extra qualities and talents in art, philosophy, science and medicine.

This particular conviction about determining how a particular person may have lived his life and how righteous he may have been throughout his life somehow unknowing creeps up in my unconsciousness whenever I meet with new people and whenever I have to deal with them. Needless to say that it makes me pay little attention to what one is saying before I run this new found Norton anti virus device, through their forehead and become convinced that the man I am dealing with is a ethical / virtuous person and that confiding with him would do no wrongs. Incidentally, and surprisingly in my dealing with people ever since I became somehow obsessed with this idea, I have found those people showing that sings of wisdom and virtue to be more practical, reliable, trustworthy and farsighted.

How many such people you might come across every day? Perhaps, very few. Of course, I would not except everybody to be wrinkly, especially when one is in his / her early stage of life. But when you are in the company of such people who have reached that stage of their life when they show those highway lines across their forehead try to pay attention to what I am saying and see for yourself whether this is true.

These days many would prefer to go to the extent of lifting their faces by undergoing plastic surgery therapy and thus removing those hard earned saintly signs in order to defy nature’s work and to regain their velvety charm. My humble suggestion to those who whish to have their wrinkle lifted is that rather than going through such venal practices, you should begin to live your life virtuously and perform only wholesome deeds while refraining yourself from committing impious deeds. Who knows one day someone may come along singing " Wrinkle Wrinkle Old Star, how I wonder what you are?"
