A bleeding nation
Dear sir,
Your editorial of March 17 entitled "A
bleeding nation" is worth reading as it takes to task all elements of Nepalese
society-be they politicians, members of civil society organizations, the academia and the
media-which have not been able to rise above their own petty interests and have pushed the
country into a state of crisis and confusion, anarchy and utter stagnation.
Only when all these elements or forces,
instead of pursuing their extremely selfish and narrow interests, come together on a
common platform with a common agenda which should be the restoration of peace and
stability in the country, the country can hope for a better future. You are quite
right-there is no one to think seriously in the national interest, let alone the
preparedness to sacrifice for the nation and the people. We can not expect miracles to
happen. Likewise, we can not invite any foreign power to help us in this hour of crisis.
Foreign powers have their own interests if we approach them for help. The country belongs
to all of us and it is our responsibility to work together and resolve the crisis. We may
listen to foreign experts when they talk about conflict management, but we can not rely on
them to work out solutions. Real solutions must come from within, from among ourselves.
Today everybody is confused, because we are not prepared to transcend our petty
differences and narrow interests.
