Nepali political cuisine and its dynamism

By: Niraj Aryal

Starter

It is assumed that even if all of us are not students of Physics of motion, we know very well that a velocity constitutes of a speed vector and a direction vector.

And movement is characterized by velocity. If movement is characterized by speed, then we would not know which direction we are heading for.

Main course

Now talking of the dynamics of Nepali politics, since its reinstatement of democracy in 1990, to be more precise, Nepal has always been moving in all direction. But in the previous two weeks, the movement really showed some dynamism.

Every one seemed to be moving this time. The Palace, the leaders, the media men and the laymen all appeared moving at a high speed. This movement cannot just be characterized by speed (direction less). Instead it has to be the velocity, with direction.

Unfortunately the common people did not know the direction of their own movement. But our illustrious leaders very well knew what direction they were moving towards and with what goals.

The velocity with which our leaders achieve something is inimitable.

In the Nepalese context, the word something in the last sentence, more often refers to a chair and sometime it can also refer to a development. Even then development is more pronounced.

It is always known that unless a chair is achieved no development can be achieved. The chronology goes like this:

1: Get a powerful chair for yourself (here chair is the keyword)

2: Develop yourself

3: Develop your close ones

4: and if you have time, develop the country

In reality when you come to the level four, your age, energy and stamina seizes to exist. You are no longer the person who was at level one and two. You look so tired. You are no longer capable of working.

Then comes another one who follows the same chain of action, 1,2,3 and the end. Lost in the process is the Development of level four.

But in between we have meets like NDF and we have insurgencies, fight for chair and also regression.

These are all part of the game. Here laymen are mere spectator. Now they have no speed and no direction.

Just the players are moving, with ferocious velocity.

In this rare game played in Nepal, the political parties, the media tycoons, and the partisan intellectuals sometime all come together at the same front, condition: forging consensus against the country’s development. For example recent howling against holding the Nepal Development Forum meet, is just one of them.

Dessert

This is what the common people are forced to watch. This is one of the best plays we can see in Nepal, which is of course not free of cost. Sad enough, the laymen are paying heavy prices.

But they have to be satisfied with this kind of play being repeatedly played over and over again. This is their destiny.
