Israeli envoy's sentimental gesture and Ms. Roma

NP Upadhyaya

What is to come about the next moment, no body knows. How one's future career will proceed and in what way, no body can foresee. Similarly, when luck is to knock one's door, no body even can imagine.

Such unanticipated events at times happen in one's life. All goes in a smooth manner as if it were a predestined matter over which no body had control.

Lord Krishna has rightly said in the famous Gita, "do your work without expecting any substantial results". This means the Lord recommends one to work and leave the results up to the almighty who will take proper care of his or her efforts.

Such a marvel has happened of late which compels one to think seriously that there should be some super-natural force on earth that guides one's destiny. The individual remains helpless in shaping his or her destiny. What has been decided for him or her by the all-powerful FATE only time reveals or brings to the fore.

Or else how come a poor girl of the rural area who has lost one of her legs in an accident and become totally disabled could collect enough courage and surprise the men of her own society by performing dances that needed the support of two legs compulsorily. The fate has some thing more in the store for her. Some thing surprising and unexpected were to happen in her life.

Roma Neupane is the girl from Ithari , a town close to my own home-town, Biratnagar. When Roma was a doll-playing girl, she was over-run by a vehicle which made her disabled. The fate put a seal on her future career thus. However, the Almighty had some exclusive plans for her through the kind courtesy of some kind—hearted personalities.

But look the will power of this small girl that she never allowed her mind to think that she was a disabled girl. This meant that she was pretty confident of shaping her own career through her own efforts.

She then practiced dancing and got expertise in this discipline and became a perfect dancer.

As the luck would have it, this girl, now in her early twenties, made a dance-performance right here in Kathmandu some time back. As the God would wish, among the audience or say spectators, one sentimental gentleman was also attentively watching this girl dancing. The gentleman appreciated the dance and congratulated the girl for her excellent performance after the dance session ended.

Later, after the show some one who knew this gentleman from close quarters whispered in his ear that the girl who enchanted the spectators including the gentleman performed only with one leg.

The gentleman was aghast with this sudden and unexpected revelation. The gentleman became sentimental and began thinking on how he could be of some support to the girl.

As the luck would have it, this gentleman came in contact with a a medical practitioner Prof. Eli Isakov who was luckily vacationing in Nepal who heads the Ortho Rehabilitation Department Lowesnstein Hospital in Israel.

The disabled girl is Ms. Roma Neupane. The gentleman who exhibited sentimental concern towards Roma was no other the Israeli Ambassador to Nepali court, Dan Ben Elizer.

Things moved so fast that Ms. Roma is leaving for Israel next month.

Talking to newsmen, Ambassador Elizer hoped that Ms. Roma's treatment in his country will add some more value in improving her quality of life.

It is time to thank the persons involved in taking proper care of a Nepali sister/daughter. Naturally, primarily Ambassador Elizer and the Prof Isakov are to be thanked from the core of our hearts for their timely and million dollar initiative that is sure to provide a new meaning to Roma's future life and career. Secondly, one has to admire the inner courage and stamina of the girl, Roma, for her strong will to face the societal challenges and now upon return from Israel, we will have a new Roma with indomitable courage and strength to face the Nepali society that looks upon bit differently disabled persons like Roma and others like her.

Congrats Roma. We wish you all the best. Thanks Ambassador Dan!
