Why not utilize potential of Nepali ghosts? N.P.Upadhyaya Nepal could not develop over the years is a hard fact. Nepal as a nation-state got plenty of opportunities in the past, but could not develop. Nepals development partners tried their best in developing this country at par of Singapore and Switzerland, but miserably failed. In the process they poured-in money like anything, however, we wished ourselves not to develop. This notwithstanding, the men in the higher political echelons, thanks the Almighty! Utilized the money(s) thus received in grants, donations or for that matter loans since the early fifties that continues to date even, to the hilt and thus developed. The development process did not end here. The men manning the system, then and now, were so magnanimous that they even took proper care of their relatives and distant relatives as well. The donors were taken aback. They questioned themselves as to what could have been the real reason that while the nation became poorer and poorer still with each such donation pouring into this country, the men incharge of the money thus received appeared more and more developed? Im told, some NDF partners whispered amongst themselves this round of Kathmandu meeting and wished to engage a investigative-journalist to dig out the truth underneath this surprising phenomenon in Nepal. Im afraid the journalist might emerge developed much the same way as our leaders have developed themselves over the years. However, there is nothing to panic. I have today with me very good news for all of us who wish to see Nepal as a very highly developed State. The story was pulled out from The SAMACHAR PATRA DAILY, which I read a few years back. This news was printed in the said papers last page. After going through that small piece I am now convinced that no force on earth can block Nepal going developed provided we tap this potential. If we could do that it is only a matter of fife years that we can match with any country located in the developed west. The story is bewildering but yet very interesting and true. It is true in the sense that it has been printed by a newspaper man like me. My conclusion is that if that has happened then our government can bring about a charismatic change in the life-style of the country men and we henceforth could reject the foreign money which we ask every time from our foreign friends. Without wasting much of your valuable time I wish to present the story which I read in Samachar Patra daily last week. The story follows: In a village in the Sindhuli district, one lady had two sons. The lady had some lands. The younger one is a class eight student. Unfortunately some months back the lady left for her heavenly abode. The two sons became parentless-guardianless. It so happened that one night, the lady-mother calls her younger son. The son is in deep sleep which is only but natural because it was already mid-night. The mother says her son: " How you could sleep! Dont you see that the wheat plants in our land need to be irrigated! Come with me and let us both irrigate that particular land. The boy in unconscious state follows his mother to the wheat field. By this time the elder brother senses that his younger brother was missing from the bed and then starts shouting. Neighbors too join the elder brother in tracing the missing boy. At last, around four in the morning the missing boy enters his house and to every bodys surprise, the missing boy was all wet. However, there was a change in the boy. He remained speechless and could not utter any thing about the event that had happened with his during the wee hours. After few hours, the boy could relate the whole story to his brother and the villagers who could not believe his version. However, the fact was that their wheat field had been completely irrigated. Unbelievable as it may appear, the land got irrigated. What was later revealed later is that neither it had rained in the night nor the land was close to any stream. Since the event the younger son prefers not to mix-up with his school friends, the newspaper writes. Now the government led by Deuba could utilize such potentials. All that they have to do is to collect such ghosts and utilize their enormous unearthly powers for the cause of Nepals development. Some ghosts could be told to build roads, some bridges and some the posh bunglows of ministers. If the government so wishes, it could requests some modest ghosts to take care of the Maoists so that we could save money. To do so, a cabinet decision must be made at the earliest, which would be binding upon the ghosts as well. The ghosts could be told to protect our borders. They could be told to irrigate the lands which do not get water. The Nepali ghosts could be ordered to find good parties which could improve the dwindling state of our commercial banks. The ghosts could also be told to monitor the clandestine activities being initiated by some political leaders to destabilize the Deuba regime. If they perform as per the instructions, they could later be exported to poor countries. This way we can earn foren dollars which we badly need to sustain the country. Time permitting we can export our Nepali hard working ghosts to the countries such as America, Germany and France. We can help build the completely destroyed Afghanistan and ask the US leaders to divert the money to Nepal. In my opinion, the Nepali ghosts can change our fate. What is the harm in trying! But the million-dollar question is who will convince the spirit? At least not me! |
