Khetan's Tuborg Excellence Award to SLC toppers

NP Upadhyaya

Hindu epics and the Vedas are abundant with instructions, suggestions and sermons on how to achieve eternal peace of mind.

A true believer of Hindu religion will undoubtedly seek the ultimate peace after leaving this material world. It has thus been advised to a normal human being to go in for donation from whatever remains in his or possession. It is rightly said that a person feels more comfortable and peace in his mind when he donates some things to the needy ones.

The kind of mental peace and solace that one gets from donating things is beyond explanation. It could only be felt by those who have made it a habit of donating things as and when his or her mind so instructs. For those who neither believe in the acts of donation nor have ever donated any thing to any person would surely not know the pleasure what one gains or receives from such donations. However, there is one condition attached to such donations: donate only to those who need it and donate only to those who would utilize the donation the best. The idea is that the person benefiting from such donations should be worth of it. If the donation goes to the right person, the pleasure of such donation gets doubled. And the blessings that the donor receives from those who receive donations is presumably close to being face to face with the Almighty who is managing the entire affairs of the world and that too being invisible.

Nevertheless, providing of donations have become a fashion in the modern day world. Some do it for name and fame. Some do it for having a prestigious life in the society. Some do it with ulterior motives. The society is full of such notorious persons indeed. However, not all are rotten eggs. Not all apples have gone rotten in Nepal.

Some kind souls yet reside in the country that presumably think of going in for such donations so that the needy ones benefit ultimately.

Not all men in the society donate. Not all business people have a habit of donating things to the needy. Not all so-called white-collar people appear to feel the feelings of the poor section of the society.

To cut the narrative short, let me come to the real story.

Tuborg is a beer company established a decade and a half years back. The brewery certainly has made huge profits. However, there is a difference in between this company and others, comparatively speaking. A striking difference indeed that warrants appreciation. The difference is not in how money is pocketed but how a small portion of the profits should be utilized in favor of the society.

Undoubtedly, the Gorkha Brewery Chairman, Mohan Gopal Khetan is right when he says that though a company that deals with Alcohol, but yet its intents and motives are as clear as milk.

Last weekend, this company handed over a cash prizes and letters of appreciations to those students, boys and girls, who made history in the results of the last School Leaving Certificate Examinations.

The Gorkha Brewery awarded prizes to a total of 19 students who were adjudged to have secured highest marks. This was done, according to senior Khetan, to encourage the students so that finally they built a brighter Nepal, which is what was needed.

Prior to the distribution of the awards to the ten toppers of the SLC Board of examinations, Mr. Khetan urged the media men not to criticize his Brewery's intents and the very pious ideas behind such awards.

" If there could be a struggle/tussle to win a Swedish Alfred Nobel's arm company's Nobel Prize then what was the harm in providing of such awards in the sectors of education and that too that encouraged meritorious students by the Beer company?" Khetan questioned.

In the same vein, he cited the example of Tuborg Company in Denmark, which has made compulsory that it should and must donate a small chunk of its profits in the name of donation. As a subsidiary of the same Tuborg, we too have tried to copy the same motto and will continue our endeavors in this regard God Willing indeed.

Congratulations to the students who received the Gorkha Brewery Excellence Award. Thanks to those who organized this ward with a view to encourage the students-the real future of this country.
