British Ambassador meets with Home Minister

British Ambassador to Nepal Nicola Katherine Polit paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand today. During the meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 200-year-old relation, cooperation and collaboration between Nepal and the United Kingdom were discussed. During the meeting, Home Minister Khand thanked the UK for its support in the areas of physical infrastructure development, health, education, manpower development, prevention of gender based violence, awareness raising, and women empowerment.

He also expressed the commitment of the Ministry of Home Affairs and his personal support for such cooperation in the coming days. Home Minister Khand lauded the role played by the United Kingdom in the distribution of vaccines to prevent the epidemic's harsh effects. Stating that Nepalis have a long history of cooperating in the British Army as Gurkha soldiers, Minister Khand urged Ambassador Polit to take initiative to address the demand for service facilities for Gurkha soldiers.

During the meeting, Ambassador Polit said that the United Kingdom was in favor of equitable distribution of vaccine against COVID-19. Ambassador Polit assured that the Gurkha Army had made an unprecedented contribution to the UK and would take the initiative to address the just demands of the Gurkha soldiers. During the meeting, Ambassador Polit briefed about the areas in which the UK would assist Nepal in the coming days.
