Nepali woman sold off in Thailand; trafficker arrested from Sinamangal

Police on Thursday arrested a man involved in human trafficking from Sinamangal, Kathmandu district.

The arrested trafficker has been identified as Rajendra Khadka (44) of Galkot Municipality-4, Baglung district.

Khadka had promised the woman (victim) to employ her in hotel-based hospitality sector work in Belgium with an earning of Rs 100,000 to 150,000 monthly. The victim also gave Rs 854,000 to Khadka for that.

Khadka allegedly took the woman via the Bhairahawa route in Nepal and Gorakhpur-Kolkata route in India from where she was taken to Thailand to reach Cambodia, said police.

The victim was sexually assaulted by Parbindar Singh too, an Indian national in Khadka's room in Thailand. After that, the victim was threatened and taken to Malaysia where she got stranded.

The woman was rescued with the help of her relatives and returned to Nepal on 15 March 2020.

On the basis of the complaint filed by the victim, the Police Headquarters-based Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau nabbed Khadka who was absconding since then. The police apprehended Khadka from Kathmandu who was hiding in Sinamangal area.

Khadka has been charged under the Human Trafficking and Smuggling (Control) Act, 2064.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is being carried out after taking additional four days of custody from Kathmandu District Court, informed the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau.
