The Ministry of Health and Population on Thursday warned against the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Issuing a press statement today, Deputy Spokesperson at the Health Ministry, Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, said, "There has been a spike in the infection rate after the prohibitory order was relaxed. This has increased the possibility of the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the nation."

The ministry has also requested all the health institutions across the country to be prepared with oxygen cylinders, beds, and other healthcare infrastructure that are needed in the treatment of patients infected with COVID-19.

"We have already directed all hospitals to prepare for the third wave," said Dr Adhikari, adding, "As children are at a higher risk of being infected, we have urged hospitals to make separate preparations of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and ventilators for the treatment of children."

Till date, a total of 724,455 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus in Nepal among which, 6,36,402 have already recovered and 9,637 have succumbed to the virus.
