The government has resumed printing of driver's license (smart license) which was stopped from February 2021. Printing of licenses has resumed at the Department of Transport Management in the presence of the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Renukumari Yadav.

The government had stopped printing and distributing licenses of non-essential service recipients due to a lack of license printing cards. In the first week of the last December, the French company had provided 1.4 million cards to the department. After conducting the necessary tests, the license is being printed on the card.

Namaraj Ghimire, director-general of the transport management department, claimed that all the remaining licenses could be printed by February. He claims that about 450,000 licenses are yet to be printed.

The department has said that 8,000 cards will be printed daily in three shifts. The department has started giving 'paper' licenses to those who have passed the trial, saying it is a trial period of one year. The department claims that the license will be issued to the renewers within a month.

Speaking on the occasion, Transport Minister Yadav said that discussions are underway to send the licenses to the service recipients at home. He said that if the license could be delivered to the home, the obligation to come from Humla-Jumla to get the license would be removed.
