Excavator driver arrested on charge of killing ward chairman in Sarlahi

An excavator driver has been arrested on charge of killing a ward chairman from Ishworpur Municipality-3 in Sarlahi district.

The deceased has been identified as Surya Kumar Shrestha (55).

The accused has been identified as Harka Bahadur Gole alias 'Rabin Tamang' (40), a local resident of Hajarbigha in Haripur Municipality-1 in the district.

Premraj Dahal (31), the contractor of the excavator and local resident of Bhaktipur in Ishworpur Municipality-3; Indal Sahani (40), contractor of the pond and local resident of the same municipality; and Gole, the driver, got into an argument with ward Chairperson Shrestha on Friday night on issues related to digging the pond. During the argument, Gole attacked Shrestha with the bucket of the excavator and buried him at the site.

Acting on a tip-off, security personnel deployed from the Sarlahi-based District Police Office rescued Shrestha. He was sent to Malgawa-based District Hospital via an ambulance for treatment but died on the way, informed a doctor from the hospital.

Gole who had been absconding after the incident was nabbed by joint security personnel deployed from the Sarlahi-based District Police Office (DPO) and Area Police Office. The police also held Premraj Dahal for further investigation.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway, informed the DPO, Sarlahi.
