The incessant rainfall since last Tuesday has damaged the houses of some locals at Ramnagar in Bhangaha Rural Municipality- 4 in Mahottari district while the floods have inundated over 150 houses in the locality.

The heavy rains have completely damaged a local, Upendra Kapar’s, house. Kapar was grateful that though the house collapsed nobody in the family lost their lives.

The settlements of Chamar, Mushahar, and Muslim communities have also been waterlogged. Aisha Khatun, a local, mentioned that the concerned authorities had still not addressed their grievances.

According to her, the settlement had been inundated due to wanton and excessive excavation of sand and aggregates in a small pond that lies above their settlement.

The water level in Ratu River has increased due to the incessant rain that has continued from Tuesday, and many settlements in the district such as Bhagawatipur, Bhalani, Leuri, and Banchauri in Balawa Municipality, and Kabilasha of Bhaghaha Municipality are at risk of inundation.

Likewise, places close to the river banks and those in low-lying elevations have been inundated. Dhawauli and Maliwara in Jaleshwor Rural Municipality, and Anaitha and Ratawara in Ekdara Rural Municipality, among others have been facing problems because of the Ratu River, said Chief of District Coordination Committee, Suresh Prasad Singh.

Similarly, other local streams such as Junga, Maraha, Kutumeshwori, and Banke have been causing floods and inundation in many human settlements in the district.
