Interaction program on foreign employment

A one-day interaction program organized by the Secure Immigration Project (SAMI) for informing the police about foreign employment has been completed here today.

The project was organized at 156 local levels in 39 districts across the country. It was informed in the program that 5.9 million youths have been employed in foreign employment till last December to help alleviate poverty.

The increasing size of young manpower in the country, low internal employment, low interest in traditional living, increasing debt burden, social pressure, domestic violence, and family discord, instability in the country, increasing employment opportunities abroad and the wage gap, demand for Nepali workers in international market and ease of information. Issues such as young people going abroad every year were also discussed.

There were 5,224 foreigners in the month of November when 450,000 youths went abroad every year. Devendra Chaudhary, the District Coordinator of the project, said that the objective of the program is to provide additional knowledge and awareness to the police officers to give justice to the victims and take action against the perpetrators if any complaint is lodged against the youths going for foreign employment.

Assistant Chief District Officer Sharad Kumar Pokhrel presented a working paper on 'Foreign Employment Act and Role of Chief District Officer' and Superintendent of Police Janardan GC presented a working paper on 'Role of Nepal Police in Making Foreign Employment Non-Exploitation'.
