MoHP reports 1,347 new COVID cases, 10 deaths on Wednesday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 773,529; death toll reaches 10,889

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Wednesday reported 1,347 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 773,529. Additionally, 293 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 10 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 10,889. Presently, there are 29,479 active cases in Nepal. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 568 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 349 cases, Lalitpur logged 150 cases and Bhaktapur logged 69 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 2,161 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, a total of 733,161 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 94.8 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Tuesday had reported 1,423 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 772,182.

As of Wednesday, a total of 3,990,599 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 29,479 persons staying in isolation while 256 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 2,288,783 people have been administered the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines and 1,346,678 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 3,394,278 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 2,331,648 others have received the second dose as of September 8, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Similarly, a total of 1,378,477 persons — 194,293 in Province 1; 276,570 in Province 2; 347,093 in Bagmati Province; 103,468 in Gandaki Province; 253,555 in Lumbini Province, 70,104 in Karnali Province and 133,394 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with single-shot Janssen vaccines.

More than 222 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 4,761,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 52 countries.
