Over 750 journalists have been infected with COVID-19 and 13 succumbed to the death so far, according to the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).

The FNJ, an umbrella organization of journalists/media workers, has appealed to all journalists to acknowledge the intensity of the ongoing crisis and its probable health risks. The Federation also urged the journalists to focus on personal health safety as well.

“Journalists are urged to continue with the profession by taking all possible health safety measures,” said the FNJ in a press statement here today.

Meanwhile, the FNJ has expressed sorrow over the demise of Shanti Ram Karki, Chairperson of FNJ Channel Nepal Pratishtan Unit.

The 34-year-old journalist had tested positive for the coronavirus on May 2. He passed away on Saturday morning at Manmohan memorial hospital in Swyambhu, Kathmandu.

“With the passing away of Karki, Nepali journalism has lost a promising, professional and dynamic young personality,’’ mourned the FNJ, praying for eternal peace to the departed and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
