Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has wished happiness, peace, and longevity to all Nepalis living at home and abroad on the occasion of Maghi and Maghe Sankranti festivals celebrated by different communities including Tharu and Magar on the first day of 10th month according to Nepali calendar (Mid-January) every year.

He urged the people to celebrate the festival happily in compliance with the public health standards issued by the government as the new variant of COVID-19 has increased the risk even though the efforts made so far to control the epidemic have been effective.

Known as Maghi in the Tharu community and Maghe Sankranti in other communities, this festival is currently being celebrated as a festival with a unique identity in Nepal. Mentioning that our culture and traditions have their own characteristics, Prime Minister Deuba said that unity and social harmony within diversity is an example of our cultural characteristics.

Maghe Sankranti i.e. Maghi is also one of the exemplary festivals promoting this harmony and unity. He is confident that this festival will help in deepening the mutual relations among all Nepalis. Prime Minister Deuba wished that the festival would inspire and deepen the spirit of mutual harmony and tolerance.
