Police arrested two people with gold and silver worth Rs 23 lakh for which they couldn't reveal the source from Lumbini Municipality-11 in Rupandehi district on Wednesday.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Farukh Musalman (40) and Rahis Ahmed Musalman (24), both residents of Panditpur in the same municipality. They had 11.50 tolas of gold and 7.5 kg of silver in their possession.

They were riding a motorcycle with vehicle registration number LU 38 PA 2372 when the Lumbini-based Area Police Office personnel nabbed them with gold and silver during a routine vehicle check. They were allegedly smuggling it from India. The police also seized Rs 17,250, Indian currency worth Rs 3,000, and three mobile phones from them.

Both the accused and seized goods have been handed over to Belahiya-based Bhairahawa Customs Office for necessary action, said the police.
