Minister for Youth and Sports Maheshwor Jung Gahatraj has committed to developing the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium adding that the ongoing construction works will not be left in limbo.

At an interaction program organized on Thursday in regard to the construction of the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium, Minister Gahatraj pledged to continue this task since it was the project of national pride.

Saying that Nepal lacks a stadium to organize international-level tournaments, Gahatraj added that the stalled stadium would be advanced after fixing a modality for its management.

On the occasion, Minister Gahatraj said the local people’s concern is needed to complete the construction of the stadium. “The project could remain in limbo if you (local people) are not united,” Gahatraj added.

He was of the idea that the stadium would be completed with the collective efforts of federal, provincial, and Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

Stating that the sports infrastructures were incomplete for lack of budget, the Minister said consultations were taking place with the development partners for economic assistance.

Likewise, Gahatraj said it would be easier to forward the construction of Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium if Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation immediately released the expenditures incurred so far.

On this occasion, the Minister for Industry of Bagmati Province Milan Babu Shrestha sought the leading role of the federal government to complete the project adding that it could not be completed from the local level. “This is an inevitable project of the nation. The government should complete it by taking ownership of it,” according to Shrestha.

Also speaking at the program, the Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal shared the progress made so far on the construction of the International Cricket Stadium.

She also sought support from the federal government adding that the metropolitan city’s resources, means and capacity won’t suffice for the stadium’s sustainable management.
